Jean-Marie Berthier
Jean-Marie Berther is a family Domaine located in Saint-Gemme which is about five miles north of Sancerre. The Domaine is now in its fifth generation of family members and it is known for very authentic wines which express the unique mineral content in its vineyards. The family has also broadened its vineyard holdings through the generations and now has vineyards in Sancerre, Pouilly-Fume, Menetou-Salon, and Coteaux du Giennois which is directly across the river from Sancerre and which borders Pouilly-Fume to the north. The Domaine's expressive wines start in the vineyards which are meticulously farmed and which are also now organically certified.
The Wines
Jean-Marie Berthier Sauvignon Blanc 2023 (OC, NF)
This wine is from the younger vines in the producer’s vineyards in Sancerre, Pouilly-Fume, Menetou-Salon, and Coteaux du Giennois. Aromas include white grapefruit, honeydew melon, white peaches, pear, citrus blossoms, narcissus, and white flowers. Flavors include honeydew melon, pear, white peaches, Golden Delicious apples, and white grapefruit. There is a medium to full body, perfect balance and acidity, and a long and refreshing full finish.
Food pairings would include sole, shrimp, clams, mussels, calamari, seafood pasta and salads, veal and pork cutlets, veal piccata, pasta with creamy sauces, risotto, Asian pork, chicken, seafood, and vegetable dishes, creamy yellow curries, Indian and Asian appetizers, Asian vegetable salads, Mexican pork, chicken, and seafood dishes, chile relleno, seafood enchiladas, tacos, tapas, green salads, and medium to creamy cheeses.
Jean-Marie Berthier Coteaux du Giennois Blanc 2022 (OC, NF)
This is 100% Sauvignon Blanc and aromas include lime, white grapefruit, white peaches, and green apple. Flavors include white grapefruit, pear, and kiwi. There is a medium body, good balance and acidity, and a crisp, minerally, and refreshing finish.
Food pairings would include sole, shrimp, swordfish, calamari, seafood salads and pasta, veal, pork, chicken, Asian pork, chicken, and vegetable dishes, mild Thai curries, Mexican pork and chicken dishes, tacos, green salads, and medium cheeses.
Jean-Marie Berthier Sancerre Blanc 2022 (OC, NF)
Aromas include white grapefruit, white peach, pear, kiwi, honeysuckle, and citrus blossoms. Flavors include honeydew melon, pear, white peaches, white grapefruit, and Meyer Lemon. There is a medium body, good balance and acidity, and a minerally medium to full refreshing finish.

Aromas include star fruit, kiwi, white peaches, white grapefruit, Meyer Lemon, green apple, citrus blossoms, and honeysuckle. Flavors include pineapple, white grapefruit, white peaches, and pear. There is a medium to full body, perfect body and acidity, and a lush, rich, full and refreshing finish.

This wine is from the younger vines in the producer’s vineyards in Sancerre, Menetou-Salon, and Coteaux du Giennois. Aromas include black cherries, blackberries, blueberries, boysenberries, and hints of apricots. Flavors include blackberries, dark cherries, blueberries, and boysenberries. There is a medium to full body, perfect balance and acidity, and a long medium to full finish.
